This mosaic of Italian Tesserae represents the Annunciation in combined symbolic and abstract form.  The hand of God amidst heavenly splendor extends in command from the symbol for the Light of God.  Embodied into the band of strong red color rising toward the heavens is the word “Fiat,”  Mary’s reply to the angel’s message.  This message, “Hail, full of grace,” is aglow in a golden field of glory below.  Together, these two bands represent the wing span of the angel in flight.  Between rests the dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, turned toward the message of love and ready, as the wing indicates, to cooperate in the birth of the Son of God. The symbol of Christ, drawn from the heavens to the green hopeful area, completes the triangular group of symbolic forms which depicts the Trinity.

This mosaic was created by Sister Marvina Kupiszewski, FSSJ

Dianne Scott, niece of Sr. Annette Krauska, FSSJ created this beautiful needle point of Mary with the prayer, The Memorare:  “Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you do I come; before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.”

This month the Church celebrates Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other disciples 50 days after Easter. The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are:  wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and reverence for God.  During the coming months may we all practice these virtues for the healing of the human heart and for the healing of our Mother Earth.     Picture by the late Sister Geraldine Rutkowski, FSSJ
